The Legal Aid Foundation of Santa Barbara County provides free legal representation in critical civil matters to seniors, victims of domestic violence, and people living at the poverty level. The Foundation has offices in Santa Barbara, Santa Maria and Lompoc, operates self-help Legal Resource Centers in the Santa Barbara and Santa Maria courthouses, and provides consultations with volunteer attorneys at senior and community centers in Santa Barbara, Goleta, and Carpinteria. Full-time Development Director
Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Development Director assists with all fund development and marketing activities. This may include representing the interests of Legal Aid Foundation and its clients in the community. They will actively contribute to the success of all Legal Aid Foundation objectives, and must demonstrate a high level of respect for both clients and coworkers. The successful candidate will create compelling and successful fundraising campaigns and program grant fundraising to help meet the annual operating budget of nearly $1,000,000. They must consistently perform in a highly professional, team oriented manner, with coworkers, Board members, donors and members of the community. They must demonstrate, through both his/her personal approach, and his/her effective follow through, the highest respect for the clients served.
This position includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
1) Assist the Executive Director in planning and implementing specific fundraising activities and events designed to further resource development. This includes 4-7 fundraisers each year ranging in size and design.
2) Work with the Executive Director to plan Staff and Board related gatherings including: Volunteer Appreciation Reception, Holiday Potluck, Staff Birthday Celebrations, Meetings, and Retreats.
3) Provide marketing and communication support, including assisting in the production of:
Annual Report
Newsletters
Donor communications
Pro-bono solicitations
Annual Campaign for Equal Justice(Year End Appeal)
Event marketing materials (Flyers, Advertisements, Save-the-Date, Invitations, Sponsor Letters, etc.)
Media notices (PSA’s and Press Releases)
Wine Donation Solicitation
4) Regularly update brochures, and create new brochures as needed.
5) Assist the Executive Director in researching and following through with grant and other funding opportunities that Legal Aid Foundation can pursue to expand the availability of access to justice.
6) Work with the Executive Director and Accountant on Grant related materials:
Narrative and Budget portions of Applications, Budget, Service Statistics, and Narrative portions of Monthly, Semi-Annual or Year-End Reports and file in a timely manner
Update in-office files to reflect current reports and status of the grant
Maintain a current calendar of when reports and applications are due
Update materials needed for Grant Applications and Reports (ie. Board Lists, Job Descriptions, Staff Information, History with the Foundations, Sources of Funding, and copy of Current Budget Status, etc.)
7) Research, implement and maintain a donor tracking system, assist in compiling historical donor records, maintain and update donor records as needed, prepare merge mailings, donor history reports and other donor research reports as needed
8) Attend all Fundraising Committee Meetings, and attend Board Meetings when appropriate/possible
9) Assist with preparation of fundraising related portions of the Annual Budget
10) Regularly update the Executive Director, Staff, and Board Members on fundraising status.
11) Receive and prepare monies and other donations received from Fundraising Events and Solicitations
12) Supervise interns, volunteers, and office assistants when applicable
13) Update Donor, Calendar, Upcoming Events, and Resource sections of the website
Qualifications:
~BA or BS in marketing, communication, or business related field.
~Experience in non-profit marketing, public relations, or communication field
~Excellent skills in organizing, managing and marketing fundraising campaigns
~Exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
~Knowledge of Grant process and strong grant writing skills
~Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
~Familiarity with Microsoft Publisher, and Access preferred.
~Flexibility to work some nights and weekends
~California driver’s license, insurance and access to a car required
